Weighing in on Diabetes with AEP Josh Massingham

Weighing in on Diabetes with AEP Josh Massingham

While we all understand that maintaining a healthy weight can have positive health outcomes, losing weight can be a difficult task for many people especially if you have chronic injuries or other health complications. At Northside Allied Health, our team of Accredited Exercise Physiologists are trained in developing exercise programs to allow these individuals to still achieve their weight loss goals.

Evidence of being able to achieve weight loss and lifestyle change despite health complications is seen by Darren who is a Northside Allied Health client and Genesis Health Club member. Darren has struggled previously with weight loss due to many health complications that have set him back throughout his life. Over the past 12 months through his own action and assistance by his medical team, Darren has drastically changed his life and improved his health and well-being. Take a look below.

  • Weight 194kg down to 104kg
  • Blood Pressure 170/125 down to 115/60
  • Blood Glucose 22mmol/L down to 7mmol/L
  • HbA1c 13% down to 8%
  • Stopped all blood pressure medication
  • Stopped all insulin injections
  • Approved for commercial driving
  • Able to confidently walk his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day

As part of his journey, Darren has participated in our Group Diabetes Program and has continued to see improvements afterwards through continuing his own exercise routine and lifestyle changes. At Northside Allied Health, we offer people with Type 2 Diabetes access to our Medicare-funded, 8-week Diabetes Education and Exercise course with referral by their GP.  In our course, participants are provided the necessary tools and information to better understand and manage diabetes, as well as being able to commence an exercise program at their own pace.

If you have Type 2 Diabetes or any other heath complications and are trying to improve your health and lose weight, speak to an EP at Northside Allied Health or your GP about how Exercise Physiology can assist you. Our next program kicks off next week in Morayfield so get in touch to find out how you can be involved.
