Generally, yes. The most successful programs for weight loss incorporates dietary changes, regular exercise and behaviour modification.  The current recommendation calls for the accumulation of at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity cardiovascular exercise per week, with modest weight loss associated with amounts greater than 150 minutes. The importance of your diet should not be ignored when it comes to weight loss, as it has been well established that diet alone can also elicit significant results, however optimal health outcomes are achieved when an adequate diet is coupled with regular cardiovascular exercise, especially for obesity related diseases such as diabetes. Improved health outcomes arise with any amount of physical activity greater than zero, so don’t feel discouraged if the current exercise target appears out of reach. Many of us can be too focused on the number on the scales beneath us so it is important that we are aware of the multitude of other health benefits of regular exercise, even without the occurrence of weight loss.
